DON’T BE CHICKEN!

“Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.”

~ Louisa May Alcott – poet, authoress (1832-88)

I admit that I’m a dreamer, but find it hard to do when business and busyness take over my everyday brain. Being a dreamer may seem unrealistic, impractical, and distracting. Yet dream we must do if we wish to achieve anything beyond our immediate range of vision, or what others tell us is possible. There are many examples in history, and hopefully our own lives, that prove the importance of thinking bigger, faster, better… dare I say impossible?

Dreams take us beyond current reality and pose fresh (new, different) opportunities, things, solutions, ideas yet discovered. They’re behind every great leader, parent, teacher or coach.

And so, I look up and beyond, through stress about the economy, our market, political and social upheaval. Dreams provide relief, respite, a pathway out. That’s why they’re critical in soothing emotional/economic ailments you may be suffering at work or at home. Dreams become goals (if you dare) which then turn into finding more creative ways to achieve them. You need to think big and then set bigger goals, beyond the safe and normal and what to others seem realistic or reasonable. Without great dreams, nothing great happens. Realistic (chicken) goals, on the other hand, are shallow. Life and transactions become happenstance, subject to good luck or accident. You’ve got to look up! Not down, and never backward. It’s there waiting for you.
